What I'll be getting will be a MAC intake from ExplorerExpress.com, and a single side sweep exuast system from Gibson. My truck is a 97 Explorer Sport with a SOHC v6. I'm not concerned with tone, or sound I just want to add throttle response and passing power, will these two parts do that?
Take a look at the Flowmaster 40 and 50 mufflers. I know quit a few Explorer owners who have both and are very happy. they are a little cheaper than the Gibson too.
Definitely go with the MAC from Moterhaven, thats a great price. I'm ordering one after taxs come back, along with a Flowmaster 40 Delta dual setup.
Both of those will help with throttle and passing. Look into a chip also.
I just added the Gibson to my '97 v8. Nice deep tone, not too loud, just right. The Gibson was about $345 delivered and $80 to get it installed. The Gibson eliminated the resonator and was lighter than the original. I also went with the stainless steel as the truck only has 43K on it and I plan on keeping it for a LONG time. I could have installed it myself but it was a miserable sub-zero weekend when it arrived and I wanted it on ASAP.
This with the K&N cone filter made a noticable change in performance. I don't think the thing is any quicker, just runs smoother, after all it is moving some weight.
As for the other muffler choices, I'm adding a Magnaflow setup to my 300M, it has a nicer tone than the flowmasters which tend to be on the loud side. A lot of the people on the 300M site went with Flowmasters only to take them off and put magnaflows on.
I put the Gibson side swept on mine back in November and it sounds beautiful and gave a definate power increase. It was around 265 delivered (free ship) and I installed it my self (took like 30 min) definately worth it. As far as the intake goes i'm not sure, looking at getting one myself. That MAC intake for 4.0 SOHC 97-98 ranger on motorhaven will fit a 97 4.0 SOHC Explorer too right?
