Where To Start ?

O.K. Here it goes. I have just purchased a 1975 what I thought (and was told) was a F-150. I ran the VIN. decoder on it and found some interesting info on this beast. The info was as follows:
75 F100, 360 2bbl 4speed manual-New Process 435,
Front Axle- w/P.S
Rear Axle- 4.11- Limited slip-3600lb.

Now the truck has a 390 4bbl and a C6 auto. I was told that it was a 390 and would assume by the power the truck has that it is. Of course, you know what they say about the word assume

I want to restore this truck. What kind of set-up was on this truck as far as the tranny? Did it have a married transfer or seperated? I havent had much dealings with this old of a truck and need all the help that I can get. Should I just keep the C6?

Thanks for all your time!

my78 F150 4x4 351 C6 has been put through some pretty trecherous abuse, including but not limited to revving it up in neutral, and throwing it in to gear numerous times, but yet, I'd have no problem w/ going out right now and starting the old girl and driving it to florida. very strong for me, but that could just be luck, lol.

I think you need to decide what you want from the truck. Let it be your decision whether or not it has an automatic or manual not the VIN number. If you want to restore it to factory new condition the way it came then thats great - go with what the vin # says. If that is does not mean much to you then decide which transmission you want to get the most enjoyment out of the truck.

only the f-250 4x4 came with a divorced transfer case 390 was never a factory option in a 4x4 the f-150 was introduced in 1976 to get around the unleaded fuel requirement for light trucks so if you want to do a resto the 435 is a truck 4 speed with a nonsyncro granny gear first married to a 203 part time transfer case but the c6 married to a 203 was an option in 1975 or a c6 married to a 205 full time case

Thanks everyone for your responses. I guess I'll be leaving the auto in for awhile since its just been rebuilt. I'm not sure which transfer is in it as of yet. I havent had the chance to get under there and look. I really havent had time to do anything with it as of yet. Its still at the shop that I work at. Maybe I'll get to take it home tomorrow.......yeah!!!!! I'm haveing some tranny shift problems though so who knows......lol. Anyway, thanks a bunch!
