oil pressure

hi im not sure where to post this but i figure that this forum was about the best i have a 79 ford bronco with 460 from my guess is an early model pass car because of the front sump pan and lack of a crank weight my problem is that when my motor warms up i only have about 5 pounds of oil pressure at idle and about 25 going down the road when i redid the pan gasket i cleaned out the pickup and made sure it was open but it still has low pressure it doesnt knock or make noise although one lifter ticks if you let it sit for a week but that goes away pretty quick so any way i just wanted to thanx and any help would be apreciated

Did you use a mechanical gauge or are you using the readings from the orginal dash electric gauge. If the voltage reducer for the factory gauges goes bad it will give you a eronious reading.

It could also be the commom lifter bore letting the oil pressure dump out the bottom. Did you check the lifter bores for size and out of round? This is a common issue on the 385 series, it can remedied with lifter bore being made bigger and returning it to correct tolerence with a sleeve.

I'd check that gauge. I had a buddy who rebuilt a motor and spent tons of cash because his $10 oil pressure gauge was bad (new motor still showed the low pressure when it was installed).

When he changed out the pressure gauge, it read 40psi at idle.

Why didn't you replace the pump when you were in there? You can try replacing the pump with a High Volume when you are sure of what your oil pressure is, or rebuild. Sounds like it's time anyways.
