i don't know about that one. i think when you compare the chevys with some of the other cars in it's league, it's design has some appeal just for being different. Personally, I'm impartial to most of the Chevys, but I love those Pontiacs! Such sexy looking cars that hold the road like a dream. The "Wider is better" advertising campaign was corny, but it made a good point; and a stock superchrager off the line in this day is very cool. I think what we're seeing is GM's attempt to shake their reputation for making rather bland looking vehicles. They're just over-doing right now. I read in the NY Times this morning that they hired one of Chrysler's chief designers, so the next couple of years should be interesting.
Got to agree here. Most of the new vehicles are butt-ugly. And the consensus is (even among the diehard GM dudes) that the Aztec was designed (in appearance and mechanical arenas!) by someone smoking crack. Sad that there are no more performace (read: V-8, rear drive) cars coming from GM. Hell they won't even produce some competition for the L and they're planning on cutting the Camaros and Birds, so what is left? The Vette, and the C-5's still ain't going to win any beauty pageants in my book.
I used to like the old Monte carlo, but when the new one came out, I lost what little respect I had for that name.
I also liked the chev avalanche when I saw it on tv a year ago. Now that the have finally released them, I believe that they are a horrid mix of metal and plastic!!!
I question what will become of the mustang if GM does away with the camaro and firebird.... No doubt that we will still have a 6 cyl mustang, but I am sure that R&D into V8 stangs will drop quite a bit.
Seriously though, the Mustang wasn't made for vette competition. It was made to be an affordable sporty car, in a market of it's own, and since gm had nothing to compete, the mustang sold almost a million of them before the camaro came in in 67. Unfortunatly, most buyers now want the name, not the performance that mustang has. That is why we have Saleen, Steeda, etc....filling the void.
lallen: True. You don't see any V6 vettes out there, but (based on my limited knowledge of these cars and IMHO) I think there should be a Mustang competitive with the Corvette that also is price competitive and it should not be so limited in production. With the dropping of the Camaro/Firebird the Corvette should now be the Mustang's main competition, lest we be so dishonored as to find the Mustang competing with the Grand Am or some other front-wheel-pull car.
I rode in one of them Crapalanche things ( they arent really trucks or SUVs and they are way to ugly to be a car so maybe they are a minivan thing Idunno) After wards I cautioned the owner not to park his new auto in the sun lest it melt.
TallPaul,
If you haven't seen a copy of the Automobile magazine, it has a picture of the 2005 Mustang on the front. If this 'stang hits the streets Corvettes will be history.
