Exhaust Advise

I have a 1996 bronco with a 5.0 engine. I have already ordered jba shorty headers , but my question is as follows. My current exhaust configuration is, stock manifolds through the two cat. converters , then stock exhaust was cut out and replaced with 2.5 tubing which has a dual exit with no muffler. I was considering cutting out cat. converters and replacing with a flowmaster muffler and leaving the existing cat-back set-up in place. Will this enhance performance or should i persue a different route. Emmissions is not an issue where i live.

Although emissions arent an issue in youre area, you really should consider the environmental impact. Also, when you remove emissions equipment, you really need to take into account resale-ability. As for the Y pipe issue, have you thought about running a high flow Y pipe with a high flow catalytic convertor? That way, you get the power you are looking for, you keep the EPA off of youre case, you retain full resale value, and you will negate any problems with check engine lights and other running issues. If you would like some info on that Y pipe, check out www.proficientperformance.com and the brand on the left is Bassani. Many users here (myself included) run Bassani components.
