I've got an idea. Has anyone ripped up the vinyl in the floor of their truck? In my truck I'd like to take it out but I don't know if it's a good idea or not? Are their wires and stuff running underneath it? It's just I don't really like it too much and it would probably look way better if it was painted black or even if I put diamond plating down. Damn, that would look good. Anyways if you have any comments, leave em! I'm gonna go think more of what I can do to that floor!
seriously? Sweet. I might do that because the vinyl is beggining to come away from the bottom part of the shifter anyways. Maybe I'll paint it black or something. Would look pretty cool I think. Is there any drawbacks in doing this? What about putting in carpet is that really hard?
Well, to tell you the truth, my floor is in almost perfect condition except a couple rips and I am probably going to rip it up this summer. Why, you ask? Because I just had my truck safety checked and my floor was rusting out. The reason it does this is because below the rubber flooring is carpet. The carpet holds moisture and rusts out the floor. I have seen this on about 10 different trucks. I would recommend taking the flooring out, repairing any holes and then spraying some type of liner in. My friend did this and it works great. This summer we are going to do this to all the trucks at work.

P.S. You can also buy replacement floor pans if the holes are really big.
I ripped out my vinyl and the underlay was soaked, so I left it out. When the floor gets to muddy or dirty, I take out the seat
(4 nuts) and hose down the floor! There are some wires for speakers, seatbelt light, etc. but just shrink wrap them, or electrical tape. The rhino lining is really good, I have also used regular "Ruberized Rocker Gaurd" and it comes in black. I also used this stuff on my black factory bumper and it looked good.
awesome guys. Thanks so much, this summer that's what I'm gonna do! It is such a sweet idea. Do you leave the plastic step things (near the door) there and put the wires underneath them? Would that be a good idea? Is it o.k to use any type of bedliner? Because it's only the inside right? I really want to do this and I think it'll be really cool. BTW I'm gonna leave the mats in there so mud is not an issue!
Alright gentlemen, thanks alot for your replies. Anyone else please feel free to give your opinions!
Leave the black strip things there for the wires just like you said. Also keeps the mud out. any bedliner would be fine. Just make sure it is durable. Good luck. If you do it post some pics. Before and after!
My uncle was going to do this with his CJ-7 before he sold that. He was about ready to (had bought the Herculiner and everything) pull all the carpet, do it up with the herculiner, and seal up the guages and anything electrical (he'd long since pulled the stereo - didnt need it). The seats were already water-resistant and since he liked 4-wheeling it occasionally (or just getting it dirty) he needed it that way so he could just spray it out with a hose. But...he sold it off for 7000 bucks - it was beautiful, I wish I could have had it...
someone please reply! If I rip this up and the floors are indeed plates welded together....I'm screwed. But if they aren't I'm o.k. Anyone know if they are plates welded together?
