gear shifter locked

Hello,
Have 94 f-150, v8 5l, 4 speed auto trans. starts fine and steering turns. Gear shifter is locked in park.

I understand there must be an actuator somewhere and dont want to tear it apart until I am sure where it is. Any help/pics would be appreciated.

I have a Haynes manual, but it doesnt show/list the part or solution.

Thanks in advance.

Is your anti-lock light or brake light on or flashing? This happened on my Dad's 94 F-250. On my way to town one night, the anti-lock light came on. After I made my first stop, got back in the truck. It would start up, but the shifter would not move. I noticed the antilock light was on. I looked in the manual, and it said if the light was on(or flashing, I can't remember which), to check the fuse. Sure enough the fuse was bad. I replaced the fuse, the light went off, and the truck would now shift. I guess it is just one of the safety features.

Hey,

Ran out and checked the fuse. It was blown. I replaced the fuse and it blew as soon as the truck was started....now???

Thanks.

It has a short somewhere in the circuit. I am not sure what all is controlled by that circuit. You may have to trace the wires to find it. Look in the trouble shooting section of you Haynes manual. It may give you some advice.

Spoke to a cousin of mine that works at a Ford dealer. He told me the problem is probably with the brake light switch. I took the switch off put in a good fuse and started the truck. Then I checked the fuse and it wasnt blown....I am waiting to hear from him if this will confirm or refute this being the problem.

Replaced the switch and the baby has come back to life. I guess I may get 200K miles out of this baby after all. 10K to go.

Definitely a short somewhere in the braking circuit.
