Post cold weather starts

This is a great place place.I already found 3 fixes for little annoyance things and a coupla great suggestions for performance.I hope I can get a solution to this one,so does my boss.

Its a 03/4.2 super cab/auto.If I don`t start it everyday, when I do go to start it the starter cranks but the engine never turns over.I can get it started with a hotshot off a battery pack and everything will be fine until usually the following Monday. Then I gotta repeat the whole damn process.Voltage appears fine at battery(15v) checking the alternator.

Maybe I got a bad battery I understand.I wanna make sure it isn`t something that is a known problem to everyone else except me,like that heated PCV valve from a couple of years ago.Anything anyone has to offer will be accepted in goods spirits even remarks about my apparent ineptness concerning motor mechanics. Thanks in advance!

Get your battery load tested. A bad battery can have voltage, but it is the amps that count the most. Try Auto Zone

This is sort of off topic, but I have to give the f150 props for cold weather starting in Canada. Recently it was -39C with windchill it was nearly -50C below. Didn't plug my truck in once, started first time, everytime.

Probably a bad battery. I'm curious what battery you get and what experiences you have with the new one. Who makes a decent battery?

I'm biased because I work at a dealer but I do like Motorcraft batteries.

Hehe I agree it's always good to go with OEM parts...

but remember the Motorcraft battteries are made by Johnson Controls... who also make Diehard (sears), Everstart (Wal*mart), Duralast (Autozone), Energizer, Everready.. and the OE batteries for Honda, Toyota, and more check here:

http://www.autobatteries.com/brands/index.asp

JCI also makes the heralded Optima batteries.

Notice that the Replacement for the ford batteries at ALL these places are within 3 dollars of each other (true on the last 2 vehicles I checked: 94 ranger and 97 Sable).

Oh, and being a Sears employee, I do like Diehard batteries

That's an interesting site. Thanks
Even though lots of batteries are made by 1 company I wonder if they are all somewhat different based on specs that each brand name wants?
Sort of like when I bought my snowblower I looked at quite a few different brands that all looked the same. I was told that they were all built by one company to different standards. The ones sold at some lower price chain stores looked the same but had spot welds instead of full welds, a few cheaper parts etc.

Just put an official Motorcraft BXT-65-850 in my 97 F150 and love it. Cranks like a zig-zagging wild man. Fits exactly right, uses the same hold-down block, and was only $92. Biggest problem was figuring out how to remove the carrying handle! Needed an engineer for that.
