Unhappy tin can

well i'm at the end of the road with my 2003 f-150 sc 4.2 with 5100 miles the dealer said the noise is normal so i went to midas they were able to duplicate the sound when you idle the engine up to 2000 rpm's you can hear the tin can popping noise i even hear periodically when i first start driving from a cold start somestimes several times within a minute and when i park it @ home it will do the tin can popping noise for about an 1/2 hour its loud enough i can hear it inside my house well i hope what ever it is it will give out while it's still under warranty.

Sound like the poping sounds are coming from your exhaust (cats and/or muffler), this is normal after shutting down the engine and it starts to cool off. Never heard of it while driving, but I guess it could be due to the colder weather (depending on where you live). If your still worried about it, try another dealer and see what they say. Good luck!
