Question Question about wiring brake controller.

I pirated the brake controller from my mothers truck, since my parents don't have a trailer to pull. All the wires were labeled, but one thing confused me. The battery wire went from the controller through the firewall, and then split under the hood, one side to the battery, and the other side followed the brake wire back the trailer plug....I think, it was wet outside and couldn't get under to look. Would this be for a charging system if you were pulling a camper? Also, the brake controller has 2 slide adjustments on the front, and then there is a wheel on the bottom towards the back of the controller, what could it be for? The brake controller is a Tekonsha 2030 Mark 12.

The slide control on the front is for applying the trailer brakes by hand, seperate from the tow vehicle brakes. The wheel is most likely for adjusting the strength of the braking being applied to the trailer. You are likely right about the power wire going to the rear of the vehicle being a charge wire for the trailer. It should be fused too.
