I have an 88 F150 with 5.0 V8 and A4OD tranny. I recently replaced the tranny with a used one and it shifts to all 4 gears, but it shifts late and will downshift too easily. I can keep it in overdrive only if I am on a level or downhill stretch at around 70 mph. As soon as I give it any gas at all, it downshifts to third.
The shift times remind me of when I pulled a very heavy boat, but now it is that way or worse with an empty truck.
How can I adjust the shift time and how will I know (other than simply guessing) when I have it right? Thank you in advance for any help you can give.
What is your shift pattern? If it is P R OD D 1 then you have an AOD. If you have P R OD 2 1 and a button to shut OD off then you have E4OD. A4LD was not available in F150.
Anyways, sounds like your TV cable needs adjusting - it is detailed in the shop manual...
It is the AOD, I have seen it referred to as the AOD and A40D in my manual. Ihave a manual, but it does not tell the details on adjusting this. Also, the manual for my 88 is not listed on the page you gave. If you can give me any details on proper adjustment I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
