Towing differential recommendations.

I'm going to do a gear swap in my Bronco and numerous people have advised me to put a LSD in the back. The truck is never off-road. It is a daily driver/weekend boat tow vehicle. I've never had a problem with traction on boat ramps with the open rear 3.55s. Why then, should I spend a couple of hundred on a LSD or don't I need to and keep the open differential?

I'm going with 4.10s with my current 31" tires if that helps.

I've heard True-Trac when talking about towing. If I do get something, I don't want to have to rebuild it like I've heard about Eaton and I'm pretty positive I don't need a Detroit locker since it's a daily driver.

I'm from the Mustang community so I know about performance rear-ends, not truck applications. Should I consider a rear end girdle as well or is that overkill money better spent elsewhere? I've seen them for $149.

The Tru-Trac is similar to a Torsen. It has no clutches to wear out, it's all worm gears between the axles and the carrier. It is a torque proportioning unit which sends the majority of the torque to the wheel with the best traction. It is a massive step up from an open and has none of the handling problems that lockers or posis can sometimes generate in low traction situations. But if you're happy with your open, you may not need or want one. It really is your call. As for the girdle, I put an aluminum cover with cap support screws on my 8.8. I don't know if it helps much for strength, but the aluminum sure dissapates heat.

Good call StrangeRanger... The TrueTracs are quality diffs (I got 'em in both ends ), but there's absolutely no reason to drop them in if you're never going to see any low-traction situations.

If you do decide for traction enhancement, the TruTracs are your best option, IMO.
