Has anyone put a cat back exhaust system on their Expedition? If so, what kind? Is it single or dual? Does it come out the back or the side like the stock exhaust? Do you think it made any difference besides the sound?
I had a Flowmaster catback on my 98 Expy and I liked it,nice mellow sound, not loud and no harmonics at any rpm, just a nice deep burble, kind of like the old inboard motorboats from the 50's and 60's. I also had an FIPK on it and when I really stood on it and the r's got up over 2500 it sounded like a real V8.
It was a single inlet, single outlet system, exited under the right rear rocker panel and cost well under $300.
I had my local muffler shop put on a Dnynomax UltraFlow, 3"in and out straight through muffler and used my existing 3" pipe. Nice powerufl but quiet sound, not noticeable inside even under full throttle long uphill pulls. Total cost for muffler and labor $145. See what your local shop can do for you.
I also did a cat back Flowmaster system on mine. It was a total custom install. Single in dual out 3" in 2-2 1/2" out. They ran both pipes side by side out the stock location under the rear quarter panel. It sounds great and looks cool too! I spent $230 for parts and labor! Pretty cheap, and all I had to do was sit there and watch them install it!
I put a Magnaflow catback single tip...It idles about the same, maybe slightly lower, but when you get into it, she throbs! It is a great mod...got it for $300 or so out of Georgia...forget where...

You got a steal Mine was 340.... But it looks better
What do you mean it looks better? This system looks completely factory! Even the welds look like they came from the factory. I wanted them out each side, behind the rear wheels, but beacuse of fuel tank location and spare location it was advised that I didn't do that. These trucks have a polypropelene fuel tank and the excess heat generated by the Flowmaster exhaust could pose a potential explosion hazzard! How is yours set up? I have dual stainless tips on mine with an angle cut end.... everything is tucked up underneath the rocker panel nice and neat, the guys at the shop even asked me where I wanted the tips angled to! I want to see pics!

I have a picture in my gallery where you can see the tips coming out under the rocker panel. If you blow it up to the #2 size you can get a pretty good look at it.
