Question Hard to turn Ignition switch

When its really cold out and I get in my bronco insert the key into the "ignition switch" it can be really hard to turn, really stiff. Once the interior warms up its no problem. I wanted to know if there was anything I could do about this, spray something in there, etc. I have never messed with this part of the bronco before so Im not sure what to do or even how to take it apart. Any suggestions would be appeciated. thanks.

replace the switch. turning it that hard will eventually break the plastic housing and it won't start anyways.
once you put a new one in it, you will realize just how bad the old one has gotten.
the ign sw is bolted to the steering column down under the dash. should be around $25 or so.

Try using some powdered graphite. You can get it in little tubes for about a buck at the hardware store. Dont use WD40, that will attract dirt and make it worse as time goes on.....the real pain is that if you really want to get the ignition key cylinder really good....pull the steering wheel. Or you can try to dump some inside where the key goes and hope it gets to the sticky parts. BUILT is right tho about it breaking...keep forcing it when its tough....and it will break.....either fix or replace soon. But one thing you want to check...disconnect the metal rod from the key cylinder to the switch and see how it moves then....if it moves easily...then its the swtch...if it is tough...then its the key cylinder.
