freeze plugs
Well I have put one freeze plug back in before, it was the one that fell out and i just put it back in, and it lasted for a while. But, my question is is there an easy way about doing this. It seems So hard to get in there and put these things in. I have headers, so do you think i would have to remove them?
I have called an auto place and they said they would charge 35$ a plug, plus i gotta get it towed there, so i think thats outa the picture...
Also, I have been to auto places and never seem to find a plug that works fits my truck, they always seem way too big. The ones in there are the 1 3/4, does that seem right? Its the 360 fe engine, anyone else have this problem.
Thanks, any help will be appreciated!
Standing up and seeing the whole is why I mention this.
I just did a couple on my Buick in October.
I have done them while head-diving under the hood but that was many years & pounds ago.
The frost plugs (as we call them) are supposed to be a Tight fit coupled with a gasket cement of some kind costing the edge.
A socket that just fits inside the lip is the preferred method of installation.
I feel your pain.
Perhaps find someone with a hoist that wants to help you out.
Yes 1 3/4'' is right size. I kept losing one until, I wire wheeled the
sides of each the plug and the block, the brass plugs is what, I like to used never rust out again. I mixed up some good ol JB Weld 20 plus yrs ago. I also did inlaws 1962 Mercury 352'' fe and it's still holding. There is a rubber replacements ones. I found a copper plated steel type that has a acorn brass nut you tighen,
that expands it that work good also an ez fix just clean the block plug hole good use some type of sealer when installing it.. My 2cents

all with the headers on... About 6 yrs. ago, I rebuilt the heads and at that time. I removed all the plugs and power flushed the block out from the plug holes. I found all the Stop-Leak stuff, I used years before that settled between the cylinder water passages and that was a must remove. It sure ran cooler when, I got it running again. ...
