high idle speed

85 f150 4.9- Every time I go out to warm up my truck, in a couple of minutes I'll have to go back out and kick it down. If I don't it will keep increasing rpms til about redline from the way it sounds, but it never kicks down. Sorry for the stupid question, but should it kick down on it's own, or is it normal to have to do it manually?

is it efi or carb cause if its carb you have to kick it down manually

it shouldn't rev past 2500 rpm idling. Yeah i do believe you have to manually kick it down.

It is carbed, I'll try and adjust the high idle speed, thanks guys.
