Question Timing Chain

My timing chain broke this morning. I can't seem to price one reliably. Not sure yet if there's more internal damage yet to heads and valves.

What ballpark price range am I looking at, worse case scenario?

what engine do you have . the sohc has 5 chains 4 if 2wd if you have this engine it might be better to bight the bullet and take it to ford because the cost of the tools to replace it will be just as much as to get it fixed

I have a V6 4.0. It's a 1997 4WD Explorer Sport. My husband has all the tools, he's a mechanic. I wanted to know if I was going to get killed on parts, especially if there's more internal damage. He's at work and can only work on personal vehicles but so much, so I was trying to get some info together.

In '97, the 4.0 V6 came in two flavors, OHV (aka "pushrod") or SOHC (single overhead cam). Replacing the timing chain(s) is going to be very different from one engine to the other.
