i have a 82 f150 and in the morning when i go to start it up i have to crank on it 10-15 times before it starts i have recently installed new cap and rotor coil and ignition module or whatever its called is this normal and once it is warmed up it starts up no problem only the first start of the day its doing this any help would be great
thanks.
first of all is it hard to start when it's hot or cold. if it's cold it could be a fuel problem, like fuel filter or choke stuck closed or may not be working at all. hows the battery?
for years I had the same problem with starting my truck. The stock electric choke just sucks! I was able to put a 600 cfm edelbrock carb with a manual choke and its the best move Ive ever made. My 460 starts perfect everytime in cold or hot weather.

sometimes a deep cycle battery wont have enough amperage to start a cold engine. the voltage to the control module will drop below 11volts and the module wont fire, but the engine will still crank nice and fast.

Does pumping the gas help? Try pumping it about three times, and then crank it over. If it acts like it tries to start after pumping the gas, it sounds like your choke is messed up. And I agree with the other poster, the Ford electric choke system fails too often. I hooked up a manual choke conversion kit on my Ford 2bbl and it works well.
