We talked about this a little in another thread, thought I would test the waters. I have a '00 F250 4x4 long bed super crew. I changed from the factory tires to a 305/70r16. I know this changes my final gear ratio, but the truck looks sooooo much better with this size tire than with stock--------------
Problem is, MILAGE SUCKS!!!!!! I instantly went from getting 300 miles per half a tank to getting 190 to 200 miles. (18 ~18.5 to 12 ~ 13)
Question is this: Other than the obvious (back to stock tires or change gear ratio front and rear) are there any tricks?
I am running the new programmer ( 3 settings) and a flat K&N (I know, it will be changed shortly-used 'em in gas motors for years, have been picked on enough now!)
You basically answered your own question,my only other suggestion would be to try and keep your rpms under 2000. BTY, having the K&N is not a bad thing IMOP.
One thing you might have thought of, but didn't mention, is that your speedometer/odometer might be off quite a bit as a result of the change. When I bought my truck, the previous owner had just installed 35" tires, but hadn't done anything about recalibrating the speedo. After a short time, I realized that I was actually travelling quite a bit faster than the speedo indicated, so I recalibrated it. Without changing anything else at the time, my mileage went up about 8%. Of course, my mileage didn't actually change, but my ability to measure it did.
Unfortunately, I don't know what the procedure is for recalibrating the speelo on a Super Dury. I do know what to do if you drive a pre '99.
