Clunking/klunk Problens Please Send Help!!!
I have a 72 bronco that i've just recently installed a dual transfercase. I drove it around for about 100 miles, seemed GREAT. I moved so I towed it on a car dolly ( not the best way, but all I had) and I DID REMOVE THE REAR DRIVESHAFT. The problem now is that after I installed the rear driveshaft I get a clunking sound when I decellerate (let off the thottle). I have done numerous things to see whats going on and here is list:
1. removed np435 trans, np203-dana20 transfercases and fully inspected them. All checked out O.K.
2. Had the third member rebuilt and new lock-right locker installed.
3.New motor mounts, one was cracked.
4.checked the tranny mounts. checked out O.K.
5.re-checked the drive shaft and u-joints. checked out O.K.
6.New 31-spl axle shafts.
The problem is that the clunk still exists. I have noticed that the third member yoke does rotate about 1/8 turn before tires turn. I think the problem is in the rear axle. Could it be that the rebuilder just assembled the third member the EXACT way it came out and did not reset the gear mesh???
I know the post is getting long, so i will answer questions as they come. Thank You for any input.
