Question : Tie rod ends

Okay, this is gonna seem REALLY dumb, but:

I went to order tie rod ends online for my '89 Bronco and there are four different types listed. Right inner, Right outer, left inner, left outer. What the hell does this mean?? As far as I know; I only have two rod ends the one on the tie rod, and the one on the draglink? Why are there four listed, and which ones do I need??

Glad to hear your question. When the alignment specialist told me I had a worn inner tie rod I thought he was kidding. But I do and after a little research I let them do the job. In addition to the visible tie rods (outer), there are inner tie rods within the pleated
(accordian) sleeves. These are on vehicles with rack and pinion steering. I was told that cars without rack and pinion, may also have inner and outer depending on the steering configuration.
I left the inner tie rods to the specialists; you also need a special tool, but it is possible to do it yourself. You'll have to jack the car up and see which tie rods are loose by moving the wheel back and forth horizontally while watching the steering. A second person is helpful to move things; while you watch.
