New 66 owner need help

Just bought a 66 F-100. It has a 390 with a C6 tranny. I am told it has a 4.11 rear.

The speedometer gear is wrong. Reads too fast. Took the old one out went to Advanced and they do not carry this part. Late no time to check other parts stores. Do they have this item or will I have to go to a Tranny shop?

Another item, drivers door will not close all the way (closes, but not past the safty catch). I thought I needed to adjust until I noticed that when the window was down the door would close all the way.

Any suggestions???

The gear you can get at the dealer - and probably quite inexpensively.
Do you know if the engine, transmission and rear end are original? If so, post the warranty plate inforamtion (not just the VIN) and we can tell you what you have. Otherwise, we'll need to help you do a little sleuthing.
For what it is worth, neither the 390 nor the C- were offered in F-100s in '66, so either thye have been changed out or you have been misinformed. We'll help you figure it out, though!
I don't know about the door. Maybe something inside has come loose and is binding the linkage?
Where are you located in Georgia?
I am near Augusta.

Block is a 76, intake & exhaust different years. I will check the ford dealer in the morning.

Door does seem strange. The window roll down is very stiff at the halfway point, if that helps.

With regards to the door, suggest first make sure the screws around lock mechanism, door and window handles are secure. If does not correct problem.

Suggest removing panel to observe for any binding. Window track may be off causing binding between the window regulator and actuating rod. Wonder if it is possible as the regulator moves window up/down, it is binding on the actuator rod that runs from the door handle to the lock mechanism. Or possibly the window track is not secure and shifts effecting the lock mechanism as window moved up/down. With any luck may be a matter of adjusting, or securing the window track.

Anyhow, thought i would add my 2 cents. Sure there will be additional information, suggestions from other members.

Good luck,
dave

The rear glass channel crosses over the door latch linkage. When poeple slam the door with the windows partiall or fully down the retainer bracket or lower portion of the channel can become damaged or broken like Dave E said. Thats where I'd start looking for the lacthing problem myself.
