Hey guys, just finished painting garage so now I'm building a workbench with cabinets underneith. The bench is going to be 120 inches long and 36 inches deep. I'm just not sure how high I want to make it. The majority of my work bench activities will be standing activities. I'm thinking 42 - 44 inches?
personall thats still too high. I just buil one and its 376" to the top. Mainly as alot of my work is held in the vise which is another 4" higher. or it is something large that will generally sit up a couple of inches anyways.
I've got mine at 39" and I'm 6'2". Its a good height, I can tinker on things without bending much, and I can still sit at it with a stool and not have it too high.
Being a 6' 3" critter, I have the main bench at 40" and the side benches at 42". Any worksurface lower than that brings on a beast of a lower backache.
My main bench is 2'x8'x42" tall. I have a side bench that is 2'x4'x36" tall that I have my drill press mounted on. Being 6'1" this height works great for me. Also, be careful on how deep you make your bench, too deep and too tall you will have to really stretch to reach the back of the bench. If you use pegboard behind your bench, you won't be able to reach the top of it either.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm used to standing on a crate, step ladder or stool to get stuff.......that is as long as the knees hold out.
I set my drill press on an old dryer cabinet with the top removed. The adjustable legs make a nice level base and the door on the front is used to store fixtures and tooling. The top was replaced by a thick plywood laminated top for a solid base.
You all are sooooo lucky, my bench is 30-32in tall, woun't be so bad, but Im 6' 7". When I get my new house I'm puttin in a "real" bench, just my size. That also goes for all the mirrors in the house, and the shower heads.
