Brake light problem

I've seen this on other old F150s and thought I'd ask before digging in...

I have operating tail lights and brake lights, but if my tail lights are *on*, one side goes out completely while my foot is on the brake.

Bad socket? Short behind the socket?

It sounds like the tailight that goes out has a grounding problem. It could be either the socket or the ground behind the tailight assembly. If your socket looks OK pull the tailight assembly out and you'll find a wire that grounds it inside the bed where the tailight fits in. Clean it up and give it a try!

lc is right. The taillight has a bad ground on the side that goes out. It's a very common problem on these trucks.
