Engine idle problem....
Have been having a strange problem lately. It is a very intermitent problem with the engine not idling down. Not only does it want to idle at approx 1100-1200 RPM but after each shift it hangs at whatever RPM I shifted at for 5-7 seconds and then only very slowly comes down. Sometimes I can turn off the ignition and restart and this solves the problem, sometimes it takes sitting overnight. Other than that, it seems to be running very well.
Any ideas on where to start looking?
Your answer just made me think of another question.
I haven't really wrenched on cars since my '66 Fairlane GT was just a few years old! (dating myself I know) Is there a recomendation for a repair manual? I know Haines and Chilton both make one that covers my truck but are these the best option?
Thanks again.

sucked into the intake somewhat, causing an intake leak.
The replacements that the parts store sells are thicker and
heavier material.
Not sure if this applies to your application.
Also, some efi vehicles will experience problems when they are
lugged down below idle rpm. Like leaving it in 5th till your down
at 15 mph, then pressing the clutch.
