I can't find underdrive accessory pulleys for a v-10. Are the accessories and belt configuration the same on the 5.4 and the 6.8 liter engines? Can a 5.4 pulley kit be installed on the 6.8?
http://www.aspracing.com has pulleys for 6.8's.i saw one of their adds and it said v10, the website does not list 6.8 specifically, but does list 5.4 applications. So i would assume 5.4's and the 6.8 pulleys are the same.
I saw a thing on tv last week talking about the pro's and con's of underdriving the pully's. basically what it does is puts a smaller pully on your crank. lowering the ratio more or less.... so its easier to turn your other accessories (ps pump, a/c compressor etc.) its "CLAIMED" to give about 10-20 hp . if i 'm not mistaken, however by slowing down everything thats turning your are lowering the efficency of your alternator and waterpump. so its a bad idea for sombody like me who has offroad lights and subwoofers and all that junk.
seems to me that the real gain of power comes from the lower weight of the pulley. I've seen billet pulleys for most of the Ricers that are the same size as the OEM pully, but have yet to see one for the V-10s.
I'm not saying underdriving is a dumb thing to do, i'm just saying i dont think i'd waste the 85.00 for the pulley and 40? for the new serp belt. thats 125.00 that could be used elsewhere.
For instance i could buy on of them there tornada' swirley do-s for my intake, and a big fart can exhaust tip... and dont forget the big aluminium wing ....um...nevermind
I think you guys have been reading too many fake horsepower claims...even if you took off your belt you might grab another 5 horses...that you would barely notice....People buy all this after market crap cause of all the misleading advertising...Nothing is gonna give you much of an increase except a chip or a supercharger.. on the SD trucks. With a smaller pulley lets see,,,alt puts out 30 amps at idle instead of 55-65,,power steering doesn't work when you need it most...Ac won't do squat.
never mind engine cooling when its over 90 deg in summer.. Just doesn't sound too exciting to me..
I agree with the drawbacks, and i have no intention of installing them, but the gains have been proven many times on the dyno.Same with electric fans freeing up about 15 hp.
Don't do it! My mustang would over heat and would not put out enough juice to keep the radio playing at idle. The 10 hp gain is at redline! it did not add 1 hp to my car on a dyno until 500 RPM under redline. I will never do this again I ended up pulling them off.
I had it on a 94 with the 4.6 I did not try it on my 5.0. As I said I put it on a Dyno, I had the heads flown, SVO headers borla exhaust and SVO intake mods. I put it on the dyno then swapped the pullys and tried, saw nothing except from about 500 rpm short of red line but it was not useable because the HP was falling off by then so nothing useable.
Again that was what I saw others might be different????
I though the smaller the pulley that is on the alt. would make it spin faster, thus giving more output? I was thinking of getting one for just my alt for plowing.
