Oh wait. Can't you just take off the caliper slide bolts(allen head as I recall) and get the rotor off?

An air compressor and pneumatic tools just went on the must have list. Fronts are done and I am going to do the rears in the morning.

cwb-
Have to take off the capliper slide bolts to get to the pads, but the caliper mount bolts also have to come off to get the rotor off.

Did the rears in about 3 hours this morning and passed my inspection. These ART rotors and pads take all the sport out of driving. There's no shaking, jerking, or pulling when I hit the brakes. This will take a while to get used to.

What color loctite should be used when putting the brakes back together? I didn't use any when I put them back together last week. I checked the torque after the trip to North Carolina and didn't notice any bolts being loose. Called today about getting all new bolts for the brakes and they're going to be $72.00. I was thinking about getting those in and then using the loctite. I bought a tube of Red Medium when I was getting all the stuff for the brake job, but wasn't sure whether to use it or not. Only a couple of the bolts are rounded a little bit so I might not replace all 16 bolts.

2WD Front Rotors

How should the front rotors look for a 2000 2WD Excursion:

Photo #1 - With Studs:

OR

Photo #2 - Without Studs:

When I do searches online for parts, I get both kind. On Adv Auto the difference in price is ~$60 for no studs and $102 with studs.

Also, if with studs, do you have to remove the hub and cotter pin to remove the rotor?

Thanks,
Mr. H. J. Simpson

Mine is a 4x4 and picture 2 no studs is what my rotors look like. They slip over the 4 wheel drive hub. I would presume picture 1 is for a 2 wheel drive where there is no 4 wheel drive hubs. I am not 100% sure but that would make perfect sense imho.

Don't forget to grease the rotor / hub surface for the 'next guy'!

2wd rotors are the top picture. (just confirming what XbigXredX said. )

Panther, Weasel, gorilla...they all work!

A mix of Acetone and Tranny fluid is the best BTW.

This is a freakin' old thread!
