4.10 gear question
Precision GEar or Motive Gear any good? How do i tell waht gears i have and if i have posi traction?
For towing your 3500 pound boat you will do o.k. stock. If you are going to had a locker or LS, then that would be a good time to regear and if you plan to run bigger tires.
Running bigger tires will affect your ability to tow more than any other single factor for that size boat.
Also, you don't won't a full time locker in a rig you tow with due to axle strain. A Detroit True Trac or a selectable would be a good choice.
If you do regear, take into account the tire size but assuming a 31,32, or 33" tire then 3.73 or 4.1 would be good.
Edit: For example, I just purchased a Yukon Ring&Pinion for the fron Dana 44 for $139, rear 8.8 for $159, and complete D44 rebuild set w/ Timken Bearings $75, 8.8 rebuild kit $74, with $8.50 handling and free shipping. And I know of similar package for $400 but shipping isn't free. They are netting 1200 at least on labor for what would probably take 5 hours for a trained tech with a shop set up to do the work.
Thats why I'm learning to do it myself!!!!
