f250 dash

2001 f250 Does the headlight switch come out seperate or do I have to pull the dash cover to get it out. I had a short in my snowplow wiring and it appears it took out my headlight switch with it. I have never had to take it apart and dont want to crack dash panal.

i broke my headlight switch the first time i took it out. i then found out how to take it out, someone on here said that you can feel the release for it from above the fuse panel. it slides to one side.

I've been in and out of my dash a handful of times in the last couple of months. I don't recall seeing a switch that'll release the headlight switch, but taking the dash cover off is pretty easy. There are tabs about every 6". Start at the top left of the dash where it curves up to the top. Get the tips of four fingers in the groove b/t the dash and the dash panel cover and wedge the dash cover panel toward you as you sit in the driver's seat. After the first tab releases, just work your way down and over. You'll get the pattern pretty quickly. The dash panel cover is pretty durable, so unless you really rip away at it, I don't think you're going to demolish or crack it in the process of removing it.

To reinstall tabs into slots, line them up and give them a short, sharp shot with the butt of your hand. Piece of cake...

Good luck, use finess, not brute strength... you'll be fine.

You can pull the switch out without popping the dash cover. The **** has a small hole in it, which a small nail or awl will fit in. Push in to release the ****. The switch cover has a little slot that a small flat tip will fit in and pry off. Be careful 'cause there's some small little plastic posts that hold the cover to the switch assembly. Just work them out slowly. The switch itself fits in the dash with 4 metal clips. You can pull it out by hand. Replacement switch from Ford runs $50 or $60 depending on your lighting option.
