I'm a newbie here. I just ordered a F-250 V10 3.73 ect. Build date is 6-26-02. Hope that is not to late of order. Anyway what is a CAT BACK SYS. Does the K&N air filter help? Does a new exhaust system help? If so, which exhaust system do I buy? What else should I consider doing to enhance performance and fuel economy. I should take delivery by 7-4-02. This is kinda like Christmas. It is funny us old people can get exited like this. Thanks
I ordered from the dealer on 4/20..got a call from the dealer on 4/29 with a build date (week) of 5/27..dealer then suggested 2 more weeks of waiting for shipping..sure hoping it's sooner than 2 weeks from build week......
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 14-May-02 AT 05:15 PM (EST)]K&N air filter is a must.
For all the other things that "Help"mpg, you can buy a lot of gas for what all the other stuff will cost you, and not nearly the disappointment, avter you spend the $$ for them and find they don't help that much. I have found the best thing that helps is to "KEEP YOUR FOOT" out of it.I love my 99 V10 and it is the best truck I have ever had.Back to the gas thing, there is an old saying that I heard years ago when I useto drag race, "IF you work the horses, you got to FEED them". The V10 has the horses and they are there when you need them, so feed them when you have to, and let them rest when you don't.

MADDG,
K&N is mandatory (just my opinion), takes about 2 hours to put in yourself, even for a mentally underdeveloped forest dweller such as myself. Best price I found for one with quick shipping was Summit Racing. The "CAT BACK" you inquired about is an exhaust system that replaces everything from the catalytic converter back (CATBACK) Been contemplating this myself, advertised HP and MPG improvements may be worth the effort. Congrats on the new rig, you'll love it.
Cat back will help give power a boost or you can change just the muffler. It will give it a better sound(NOT LIKE A V8). Headers work great also if you can afford them.
I have the Borla headers and just put a Edlebrock RPM muffler on sounds and feels much better.

Welcome.
If cost isn't an issue as far as an exhaust system is concerned go with a Banks system. The Stinger is a Cat back system and the Power Pack is the Stinger plus headers. The V-10 is pretty easy on fuel once you put a few miles on it.
Also, just because we get older doesn't necessarily mean we grow up.
I ordered the truck on 5-3-02. I really think the dealer didn't call it in right away. He said he had until the 10th to order. I hope I don't get the last 02 made. The wait is unbearable.
They keep telling me their computer is messed up & they'll get back to me with the build date & VIN
Not a good situation...I'm trying to sell my car in another state....bum-ing rides to & from work...the color I want is discontinued for 2003...the rebate offer expires 7/1....
