1bbl carb
ok , i'm ready to go outside and shoot this freaking truck . i went and got a cable opperated choke . doesn't work , theres no good place to mount the part that holds the cable , the little barrel that the cable slides through to hold it in place broke . what i need to know is about the choke linkage .....theres a rod running from the butterfly that goes down to a metal weight that povits , the problem is that thing goes all the way down and then gets stuck causing the butterfly to get stuck , can i get away with disconnecting the rod ? then the cable will actually be able to open and close the choke butterfly .

You can take off the rod but you will lose you high idle cam (the weight). I got tired of the electric choke on my other truck and bandsawed the carb body boss that was the housing , plugged the hole and soldered an arm to choke shaft and went manual cable all the way no prob since.
This is on a one barrel carb by the way(300-6).

ok , then when the large end of that weight is down is the choke butterfly supposed to get stuck ? i don't really see anything that would make it move aside from the choke . is it just supposed to run high idle while it's warming up ?

ok , i ended up using the choke cable from the old vw rabbit out back . it works pretty good now . you have to hold the choke to keep it closed because i had to use a spring . but other than that it works great
