LMC does not have any grille parts for 67 to 71 or something in that range, the only have the side pieces for the lights, cause i have a 69 with i small dent in the front right of my grill,e it is the biggest annoyance, i was thinking about doin a custom job someone had told me about on the forum, it is to take piping, and have it cut in half, as in like a semi circle, and replace the bars of my grille, the only promblem is, how would i mount it effective enough to stay there for a while
I ordered the lmc and macs catalogs at around the same time and i dont think i will ever buy anything from lmc just based on the quality of the book. macs was like a magazine, i like it.
texan: have you thought about getting a steel grille with a beat up middle section, cutting out the middle, and welding in your pipes?
I just bought a slightly bent painted grille yesterday at the junkyard for $25. I plan to use it to experiment with for making a custom grille. I also thought that I could cut out the middle and make my own. Now here is my idea, I scrounged some old supercub wing struts from a guy who rebuilds airplanes. Instead of round pipe I will be using airfoil shaped. I have two sizes and I am thinking one larger one in the middle and a smaller one that is a little shorter above and below. Also I think I will mount them to the core support to do a floating grille like they do on the 50s custom cars. It might take more bars to make it look right.
i managed to find a polished aluminum grille on ebay for around $120 for my 67. it is in great shape. i liked the look of it better than my old painted grille. keep checking ebay for one maybe you will get lucky like i did. also i have my old painted grille that is also in good shape that i will end up selling. i didnt find any on lmc or any other companies when i was looking for one either. good luck.
The $120 was actually the total cost. We won the bid at $60 for the grille and thought we were getting a really good deal then we paid $60 in shipping. We had heard that people had paid around $300 for these grills so even though we paid as much in shipping as we did for the actual product i still think we got a pretty good deal.
