Aight guys, not a ford truck i need the work on but i figured sumbody here could tell me a str8 answer. Can i cut the cats off my 97 dodge 1500 5.2 without any problems, i am gonna have resonator tips and everything on it. Will their be a problem with backpressure, or will the tips make up for it? I dont care about emissions due to the fact i live in South Dakota. Need advice QUICK.
Since you live in SD & have no emmisions, then I will cut them. I did hear a rumour about all 50 states having emission testing with in the next 5 years & if so, then it will come & bite ya in the you know what.
But then again, we all know what rumours are like.
Well i am not worried bout the laws, #1 like i said i live in SD and #2 i also live on an indian reservation (no laws WHATsoever) but i am just worried bout screwing up my engine by str8 piping it... will I?

I don't think you have much to worry about there.
Check you Oxygen Sensor though. If it is screwed into you header/exaust manifold then you will be OK. If it goes into on of your cats or the exaust pipe then you will have to tap a threaded hole in there to keep it functioning.
If the computer does not read accurate information from catalyzed exhaust, it can change its parameters, which can negatively effect performace. Did you happen to read the sticky at the top of the forum? How bout you do us a favor and run a high flow cat? Im no enviro hippie, but it does serve a purpose. Also, the high flow will keep you legal, plus give you the power youre after (I assume).
