Replacement Tire Questions
I have a new 250 on order, should be here in about 4 weeks. F250 Lariat SCAB, 5.4, 6sp, 6ft bed, 4X4 with Off Road pkg, and 3.73 LS
I would like to keep the Lariat wheels, but replace the Firestones, and go a little bigger without changing anything else....
What I have my eye on the BFG A/T's. The BFG site says that 31 X 10.50 can be mounted on 8.25 inch rims only....
My questions....
Can anybody tell me the rin width for the Lariat cast wheels?
Any clearance prblems with the 31 X 10.50's on this truck? More directly, has anyone out there put this tire size on an otherwise stock 01 or 02 4 X 4 250, and what was your experience?
Can I expect any other problems with this tire size on this truck?
How do I go about correcting the speedo and trip calculator upset?
Thanks in advance....

I'm almost positive that they are 7" in width, but first off, the stock Lariat tire should be a 265/75/16 which measures to be 31.8x10.5, which is actually larger than the tire you are looking to get (31x10.5). So, if you are looking for a larger tire, you need to go with a 285/75/16 which is a 32.9x11.30 tire, a 295/75/16(33.5x11.6), or a 305/75/16 which I believe is a 33.7x12.20 tire.
Secondly, the rim width (8.5") that the BFG site has is for the 31x10.5x16.5 inch tire which wouldn't work on a Lariat 16" rim. Also, for the other tires, the rim they measured the tire on is not the only size rim that the tire can be mounted on. If you look to the left of the column that says the 8.5" rim, you will see a column that says rim width range, which gives other "recommended" rim widths (usually 0.5"-1.5" either way, narrower or wider). I say "recommended" because you can put a tire on a lot of other rim sizes that that they don't specify, its just not exactly the best thing to get the most life out of the tire. All the larger tires I mentioned above can be put on the stock 16x7 rim and will be just fine.
Thirdly, you can't do the 31x10.5 because it only comes in a 15" or 16.5" rim, which I mentioned above. You need to do the metric size for the 16" rim like the 285/75/16.

Since the stock tires are larger than the 31x10.5, those questions are kind of irrelevant, but I will answer them for the larger tires.
You should be able to fit all the larger sized tires fine under the stock truck without any clearance problems and it will give your truck a slightly more aggressive look. You shouldn't have any other problems with this tire. The speedo and trip will not be off by any noticable amount and you would probably waste you money doing a fix for it. For example, a guy on this site has a 35" tire on his SD and he is only off by 2 MPH.
Hope this helps.
On going back now and reading the BFG data MORE CAREFULLY than I did the first time...... it does however appear that if I went with either the 285 or 295's I would need to replace the stock rims, if they are in fact 7 inch.....
My main goal is to replace the Firestones..... assuming that is what it comes with..... 9 out of ten I have seen on the lot have Firestones, but I have seen two 250's that came in recently with the BFG's, and one with Michelin....
I like the Lariat rims, and would hate to have to buy others..... Maybe I would be better off staying with the same size.
Oh well, I have some time to think it over.
Many Thanks

I talked to a guy that has 305's on his stock suspended truck and the only thing he had to do was to trim a little of the front wind deflector.
If your looking for 35" goodrichs, I think YETI has a set of them he'd be willing to part with, for a small donation to his "truck mod fund"
GOOD LUCK

But, I have one more question.... What about the ABS? I had heard in the earlier generations of ABS systems, they did not take too well to tire size changes. Considering that the standard is a 245, the upgrade is a 265, and I am thinking 285.... any input on what this may do to the effectiveness of the ABS?
Thanks in advance
