9" Question

Is my 58 F-100 9" a big bearing or small bearing? I would like to put disk brakes on the rear, and I would like to do it using OE parts (with out buying one of those high dollar kits).

Hey Hotrod, have you asked yourself why you want disks on the back? I have them and am not overly impressed. I know people who paid good money to convert to disks in the back and wish they hadn't. Most of your braking comes from the front binders so the addition of disks on the back are more for show than function. It's your truck and your decision of course, but I would vote to put that time and money into other options first, like a stereo, or new upholstery. Keep us posted on your progress with it and good luck, John

The best reason I have is I hate drum brakes. That I think it would be much easier to put disks on the back. I have backing plates(from my parts bin) from a 73-79 f-150 to have bigger drums. The problem is finding a drum for thoise big brakes with a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern, at least one that is not off something really rare(rare=expensive). And the reason for the 4 1/2 bolt pattern is so I can run American Torq-Thrust D's also it is the same pattern as the Granada rotors in the front.

I dont think that you will have any problem with the 11" x 2 1/2" drums of a late 70's mid 80' land barge such as the Lincoln/TBird/LTD/Grand Marquis. Then use the best linings such as the police type.

Use 77-9 Bird/Cougar left axles to go into your 9" for the small pattern. The complete details is in the archives.

Or send anything that is longer to Moser and have them cut and resplined; about $85 a pair.
