I've been tryin to talk my mother into giving up her GMC Envoy for a SportTrac and I personally love the looks and ergonomics alot more than that of the Envoy...I do know the 4.2 in our Envoy makes considerable power being an I6 for what it is and is very very impressive, the 4x4 is fair, transmission is pretty good on the Envoys. The styling I dont care for too much and would rather have a Jimmy. But I am wondering about the power of the SportTrac abit. Is there a V8 option? Or what are the options on them?
I believe there is a V8 engine on the 2003 sporttrac (4.6 i think)....your gonna get a lot suckier gas mileage around town though, especially if you use the A/C alot during the summer. I know that with my V6 explorer if i use the A/C and drive lead foot my gas mileage will go through the floor.
As for the envoys, personally i think i could blow that stock 4.2 off with my modified 4.0 explorer. Theres no way that thing could make 275 horses with only 225 torque. I have Borla exhaust dual-flow, cold air induction (replacing with FIPK and new air box for even more power.) I raced my older brother in his stock 2002 explorer 4.0 and i left him in the dust once i floored the accelerator.

How bad is the mileage of the 4.6 in SUT/SUVs? The Envoy averages around 15 city which is all it sees. As far as performance...I havent been in any V8 explorers but the Envoy is a pretty strong runner for an SUV...it's taken down a V6 5spd 98ish camaro, 86 Z28, and a 289-2barrel powered 65 stang. I do however HATE the handling on it and the suspension just sucks...bodyroll from hell in corners with it compared to others.
There is not a 8 cyl. option on the sport trac. I wish there was. I have an 02 ST and I love it. I also work for Enterprise rent a car and I have driven many Envoys. They have pretty good HP/Torque. But I don't believe they have the 270 HP they claim. I will dust one off expecially the EXTs.
I'll see if i can challenge somebody in an envoy the next time i see one...ill even try to get my girlfriend in the car to tape it. lets see if i can blow them off
