4wd would be very difficult to add Do a search in this forum on the subject. It is definately NOT a bolt-in and NOT cheap. Easiest way would be to buy a 4x4 or buy a 4x4 with a rusty body and swap your 2wd body on the frame.

raising a 2wd can be done. Springs and a heavy duty alignment for a small lift. New I beams for a large lift. Search for a thread on 'prerunners' for info on lifting 2wd pickups

there is a guy in the offroad forum that did that swap. said it was basically a direct bolt in with a doner truck. according to him , the 4x4 front axle raised the front of the truck , all he had to do was get the ford factory rear blocks to raise the rear . the gear ratios need to match, do a search in offroad forum . i have the same idea with mine, and am researching it also,good luck,bob

according to the post in offroad forum, it was a direct bolt in , without having to fab anything , i went and compared a friends 75 4x4 to my 76 4x2 and just from looking ,i would say he is telling the truth,good luck,bob

4wd does not bolt in a 79-earlier 2wd frame. There is a large crossmember directly under the engine that would interfere with axle. Steering box is behind axle on 2wd, in front of axle on 4wd. The only reasonable way to convert to 4wd is buy a rusty/wrecked parts truck and swap bodies.

i went back and crawled under my friends 4x4 , and you folks are right about it not being an easy swap , and i also agree with the idea of getting a 4x4 , and swaping all the good parts from the 2x4 to it ,or just building the 4x4 and having two trucks ,however, if someone had time,tools,and a desire to do it, it could be done,respectfully,bob
