well it has been ordered from industrial chassis for my 1954 effie.
I have a donor truck located but it has a 4cylinder and I was curious if that was going to cause a problem or are the arms and suspension going to be the same. if any one has a instructional video or diagrahm I would appreciate it if I could get a copy. I will be using a 400SBC bored .030
I did a Dakota IFS on my '59, but it came out of a '88 Dakota that had a 3.8L V-6 in it. I have a 302 SBF in mine, so the weight difference b/t what the 4-banger Dakota can handle vs. the 6-shooter could be significant enough to research. You might ask IC. It may just be a matter of installing stiffer springs, but I'd check with them first, or research and determine if the IFS components were the same for the 4 and 6 cylinder Dak's.
I have a link on my gallery that shows the IFS install...
ds59f100 I was looking at your install and was curious about the motor mount positions. and did you have any trouble with the brake setup. I am going to use the dakota setup on the firewall
Hmmm, not much help there: I have a Jeep power booster/dual master cylinder setup on mine. We did, of course, have to re-plumb the brake lines for the front disc brakes 'n all, but that's typical with a new IFS clip install.
Sorry, can't help ya on the Dak brakes/firewall part...
So far as I have been able to determine, all the Dakota IFS pieces (for the appropriate years) are functionally identical (see the Dakota threads or Kenny's suspension article at the top for specific year differences). The springs do vary for engine type & may require substitution; however, they are relatively cheap, even brand new. Ind. Chassis does recommend only donors with power racks. I ** T H I N K ** this is simply because of the installed application, & the A-arms, etc. are identical between power & non-power rack vehicles. I have not definitively confirmed this, however (& really wasn't too interested, since nearly all of the donors I found were power-equipped).
As far as the instructions go, the ones that came with my kit were very decent. As usual, measure twice, have a trusted, sober friend measure again, then cut carefully.
As far as the brakes go, I think you are on your own. The rotors, calipers, etc. are certainly good enough sizewise. You might check with I.C. as to whether they have tried the Dakota master/booster. They make a kit to place a master setup on the firewall, think it was a C***y master, though. Otherwise there are any number of aftermarket setups for the stock master location. Hope this helps....
