sometimes i found you have to use a crow foot to get onto the top bolts.

i have an idea, the starter i want to put in is a spare i have around the shop, i was thinking of now i might just change the starter motor and leave the bendix and solinoid up their, it copmes apart easy as long as you keep the motor together until bolted tight, what do you all think?

The bolts are about 90 degrees apart and there are three. I think I also took that bolt out first so it did not have any pressure on it from the weight of the starter. If you have the old style Mitsubishi gear reduction starter I seem to remember removing that bolt with a wrench because it is right behind the motor on the starter. On the bright side the new style gear reduction starter is easy to put back in.

Having done this recently I can tell you it is no picnic but not impossible either. First you have to get the right lengths of straight extension to bring the ratchet out to the front of the starter, but so it doesn't hit that front crossmember there. Then you have to develop your mechanics skills, and find and turn that bolt blind. That's all there is to it
