Hey listen to this

We recently got about a 12-18 inches of snow. There was already about 10 inches on the ground, and the ditches in the country were full. A buddy of mine called my cellphone and asked where i was. He needed me to bring him $5 in gas so he could get his guzzler of a truck out of the snow. I filled up the ranger and can and headed out into the country. The ditches being already full, i couldn't tell where the road was and the farmer's corn field was. It was only 4 miles outside of town, but it took me about 15 minutes to cover. Almost the longest 4 miles i've ever driven. I hit a patch of snow about 30 feet long and I was "snowplaning" over the snow at times. Never did hear the crunch of gravel. When i had it stuck in a cornfield a couple month ago, i was reluctant to let the ranger eat some snow again (i never want to have to walk up to the farmers house asking to pull me out of his corn field again)
But the Ranger pulled though one more time!
And nothing broke.

If most of you don't know what nearly 18' of snow can do with a stock 91 ranger, you might think, "well that was nothing." A word to the wise, don't stop while snow boggin.

I just pulled a UPS truck out of a small snowbank today. It was nothing major, just stuck on a side street where the snowplow had gone by. It was one of their larger trucks, not the semi. He was completely stuck though, couldn't even get it to rock. I don't think the guy thought that a Ranger could pull him out, I wasn't so sure either since I was on snowpacked street without the best traction, but the push of the 4 low button and 2nd gear and it yanked it right out.

Okay, okay! My Ranger only left me stranded once and that was MY FAULT! I recently replaced my clutch, 18 hrs of grunting and groaning/cussing and fussing, and when I came time to replase the throw-out bearing, I foolishly put my faith that the haynes manual would not steer mr wrong. WRONG! The manual says to rotate the bearing until it locks and then keep turing until it pops off, after 9+ hrs I was in no mood to play especially when it didn't work. After dinner a shower and SLEEP I tried again and couldn't seem to get it to work, also I had no idea about how to remove to input shaft bearing. And with Monday moring coming up quick I for went the bearings and put it back together. Fast forward 3 weeks later and 1 block from work I loose the clutch completely. Not the greatest way to start the day. Got my truck home and over the next 3 nights after work I removed the tranny again and fought with the trow out bearing, which is what failed/collapsed, and after FIGHTING it for another hour and coming up with many many ways to get revenge on the person who would design such a contraption as haynes described I had an Idea "LOOK AT IT!" Low and behold you just need to push the bearing back and remove the C-clip to remove it. Yeah laying on my back under my truck in a pool of tranny fluid I new at that moment I was the idiot. Well I got the bearnings changed both of them, the pilot shaft removal is not fit for FORD owners, got everything put back together AGAIN and this time changed the tranny fluid. Now I approch the haynes manual ifno with much trepedation (don't trust it fully). Oh yeah did I mention i did the whole thing with out removing the hydrolic clutch, i.e. pushed the tranny as far back as possible with out totally removing it. I didn't know nada about no hydrolic clutch.

i have a 99 3.0 4x4 reg. cab, manual, with 31 in. bfg all terrain t/a's on it, and i must say, it is an amazing truck. My friend and I took our 3.0 4x4 rangers "his was extended cab auto" 2 miles out into the woods in a foot of snow. My ranger made it almost all of the way in 2 wheel drive, down a narrow unused snow covered trail. When we made it to a clearing in the woods on the side of a mountain, we really then realized how good of trucks we had. This is my first vehicle and i plan on owning more rangers.

I about the only reason it seems that everything is breaking is because here is where people come to try to fix their toys on their town, so we just see the problems. Like the new 6.0's on here if you look you get the idea of a red flag, but we are only hearing the bad side of the story, there are plenty of good 6.0's out there just stomping chevy's and dodge's.
