I posted a question a little while ago about why my 390 will not get fuel,
a couple of the responses were check the fuel filter and check the carb.
I checked the fuel filter by unhooking the feed line to the carb and placed the line in a bucket. i turned the truck over and a solid tream of fuel pumped out of the line, so im assuming all is well with the fuel pump.
Now....somebody replied and said to check the filter in the carb,....only one problem, where is the filter in the carb?
When i pump the heck out of the carb and look over it, only drops of fuel are coming out of the jets or whatever they are called. so any help would be appreciated.
thank you all of you ford junkies
I only know holleys, but when you take the fuel line off, there is a bigger nut that the line goes into. Unscrew the bigger nut and behind that is a small cylinder filter that can get clogged up very easily(especially with rust). They are only about $.80 each but will stop your truck in its tracks.
There is not a filter in an edelbrock, i amde that mistake. Just hooked up the fuel line and called it good. Rust and garbage got into te top rail which feeds the 2 bowls, take the top of the carb off. take off the fitting which the fuel line connects to, and the set of seats for the floats, and get some carb or break cleaner and spray in there, mine was plugged with rust, also clean out all of those screens. Go get an inline filter, and put it right before the carb, i have had no problems yet with that.
if you have a book for the carb it will tell you how to set the float level dont know what size carb it is or if it is new but the best thing to do is pop the top off the carb and check the floats use a 7/16" drill bit to messure where the float is setand adjust carefully
