My Brother is the proud owner of a late 2000 SD V8. Someone lifted his airbag while he was at work. Last weekend, he replaced the airbag and steering wheel from an early 1998 Expedition. It went right in, save for having to repin the connector on the hub assy. All tested OK when he started the truck, but this morning, the airbag light started to flash and finally came on solid. Does anyone have any idea what couldbe causing this?
You better not fool with airbags...Go to the dealer and see if its the same bag. If not get the right unit. Most likely there is a wiring problem in the work that you did. Get in there and look at it and read the manual on airbags. No testlights or meters....
Be safe!!!
this may sound crazy but i had a 1991 taurus sho with the same problem a buddy of mine was a shop forman at a ford dealer. he said before i turn the key to push (fairly hard) on the center of air bag then turn the key. if i did this and could get the light to turn off it most likely was a "clock spring" malfunction (if i remember correctly) which it turned out to be just that
Thank you for the responses. We are both in electronics and have replaced airbags before, safety was foremost in our minds.
He reported late last night that when he was driving home, the airbag light didn't come on at all. He had several stops to make on the way home, so the truck was shutdown and restarted. I asked him if the airbag light came on when he started the truck and he replied that the normal diag lights came on and went out just as they normally do. We will give it some time to see if maybe the connection was intermittant.
This is the newest vehicle that we had replaced an airbag in, so I though that maybe there might be a procedure to reset the computer diagnostics or something.
