Manual locking hub question

I have a 1989 Bronco II with automatic push-button 4-wheel drive. After stripping the hubs at the beach last summer, I floundered for most of the winter then today I had new manual hubs installed. It's my understanding that to engage 4-wheel drive, I must lock the hubs from the outside then push the 4-wheel drive button inside the vehicle. However, unless I'm in very snowy conditions the vehicle pulls sharply to the right while driving in 4-wheel drive. Is this normal since the vehicle no longer adjusts in and out of 4-wheel drive like it did when I had automatic hubs?

May be a problem.

How are you driving when this condition occurs. Are you applying power, going straight, turning, braking, just need a little more info. My first guess will be one of the hubs is not engaging, causing asymetric power delivery to the front. You check this by jacking up the front, and locking the hubs. Then rotate each wheel, you should see the axle shaft to the diff turning with the tire. Turn it both directins during your test. Then disengage the hubs and repeat. Dont be surprised if the shaft turns a little after disengaging, but it should release within about 1/2 rotation in either direction. Hope you work it out, you dont need to be fighting the truck in nasty weather. There are a few other gotchas with manual hubs, but they are pretty simple compared to auto hubs, and much stonger.

Do you have the front factory "Trac-Lok"? This may cause a similiar sensation. My Lock-Right does the same thing when I accelerate. Otherwise I would agree that either a hub is bad and not engaging or your passenger side axle shaft has problems.

As you accelerate the drivers side is pulling and the pass is not. Good luck.
