The reason for lifting??

It seems that I'm one of the few with no lift and no intention of doing so. I guess I don't understand the reason for doing it. There is a tremendous expense and it HAS to kill the warranty so why do people do it?? I have the $70 plow package with mine and I certainly wouldn't want my truck any higher than it is. I'm not judging those of you who lift, I just wonder why. There seems to be a lot of "since I added my lift my truck squeeks, rattles, crunches....this broke, that broke, etc." What am I missing here?

The reason for lifting??

I'd say lifts are "designed" to allow more ground clearance via the ability to run larger tires, gives your truck more articulation & better approach & departure angles. So basically to allows the truck to be more off-road worthy.

Since some fellas don't really drive it off-road, the look and the style is undoubtly a deciding factor to lift. Hard to deny the look of a well porportioned lifted truck when you're standing next to it.

Also, in abendx's case, his lift has allowed him the opportunity (when helping females into his truck) to check for any under-garment "issues".

thank you monsta for putting it in a "family" oriented sort of way.

but, we do forget that the biggest reason guys like me get these big lifts is compensation..... to make up for places on our bodies that were "shorted." feel lucky that you have nothing to make up for.

(monsta... was that "family" safe? )

[i]I'm already old! If i need help getting in I could get a pair of those kodiak steps or a stock superduty would make a cool step.
Maybe forty could give a guy a ride up on his plow?
I think when ABENDX is old he'll still have a lifted truck... but those thongs may change to granny panties!!!

I totally agree! But right now I get to "help" girls get in... heh heh

Plus the view is great, both for traffic and, uh, other things.

But hey, I do have a funtional off road vehicle that I actually use a lot. Recently I went backcountry exploring in the desert with a buddy, and I was able to traverse some areas that no stock truck could have gone. For example, I drove up a berm that was about 10 feet high and probably about 45 degrees, and it was the only way to get where I wanted to go. My truck is solid, no rattles, squeaks (from the truck at least), and so far nothing broken. It's purpose-built, and serves well. And it's a chick magnet.

The reason for lifting??

I think that there's many reasons people lift their trucks. As already stated in above replys, for additional ground clearance, for a better off-roading vehicle, and for some "to compensate for lesser areas" I think one of the biggest reasons that people lift their rigs is to make them unique and to give them a "personal" touch so that they aren't like the thousands of other SDs driving around. and its always nice to see peoples' jaws drop when we drive by. :-X11

Very good Brad. You did a great job!

Saying that you need lift your truck because your #### is too small would be taking maybe just a bit too far.

So don't say that.

It could cause one of the younger users to think that the only way to be cool is to either lift a truck or get penile implants.

We want everyone to know that a person should be happy with what the "factory" gave you first.

[I]Penile Implants! Is that part of that superduty 'Plow Package'?

Awe Monsta... Ya can't judge a guy by the size of his lift.

Could be other reasons to suspect 'penile implants'... let's see theres...

1. Anonymously posting in the 4Bangers forum.
2. Using screen names like V10INCH, KennyWad or MONSTA
3. Changing your avatar to Superman Logo etc.
:P
