flash question

OK OK i have been reading alot of things on here and a lot of them have been similar as well as different. I want some opinions if i need to get flashed or should i just drive it and hope for no problems. I have a 03 03 build and i have no problems except for the ocasional ruff cold idle and smokey startup every once in a while, other than that the truck runs perfect but i dont want to keep the PI if it will cause problems later on Please everyone give me your input on what i should do i want to keep this truck until i but 250,000 miles plus and now i only have like 20,000

Just my opinion, reflashing is just as likely to cause problems as not. From what I've seen and read on this site, a lot of the problems are caused by dealers that don't know what they are doing. If it runs good for the first 20k miles, why risk messing that up?

If it runs good leave it alone - mine has been reflashed twice and it got worse each time! I am hoping the next flash for the 6.0 will correct some of the problems they (Ford) has created. My latest flash was the Dec one which hurt mileage and performance both.

One of the things that occures to me is that fmc is trying to fix many problems, with a flash that is designed to fix 2 or 3 problems, and so it fixes some and causes problems for others. I also wonder how many people that are first time diesel owners, know that there trucks should be getting 13 to 15 mpg in city driving empty. and 15 to 25 mpg on hwy. or do they just assume its a big truck what can i expect. I guess my expectations are higher since I have been so pleased with my other super dutys and became used to getting good fuel mpgs and having a good dependable work truck. 2000 350 7.3 city driving 14 mpg av. on the hwy. 22 mpg av. New truck city 8.0 av. hwy. 12.8 ford says no problem. What ford seems to be forgetting is many people use there trucks as a means of making a living , if the truck operates for less thats more money I make which allows me to grow my buisness and ad more equipment I.E. new trucks if one equipment company no longer takes care of there customers by building dependable cost efficent trucks someone will and your loyal customers will leave and go where they build fuel eefficent trucks.
