help installing coil springs.

Hey all,

This is my prediciment. Im going to change my coils and my shocks on the front end. Im having a bitch of a time with alignment problems. Negative camber. Those bushings are already installed. Helped a bit. I took my jackall out and jacked up my frame by the one wheel. It was up for a couple of hours. When i brought it down (after stretching the coil out) I put a level on the tire and it was looking pretty square. Is this because my coils are sagging? They are 4" l;onger due to the lift. I have been really hard on the old ford. Lots of jumping through the bush.lol.

Instead of purchasing 4" longer coils i went with 2" longer coils and adjustable spacers that go underneath. Got my shocks and coils in a few days ago, still waiting on spacers.

I was going to remove my coil earlier but didnt know if i jacked my truck up to much and if it was pulling on the coil. I dont want it to fling out and hit me in the cocanut or spill my beer. Is there such thing as a coil spring compressor? How much are they?Does this whole coil spring and adjusters sound like im going to be ok with it?Does that prove my springs are shot and now the new ones will help me from chewing tires from the camber?

Sorry for so long, but i try to explain all at once. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

You can borrow coil compressors from many parts stores for a deposit.

FWIW: Whenever I remove coil springs or release a compressor, I put a length of 3/8 chain around the arm/axle and through the coil and chain it to the axle withgrade 8 bolts. So, if it does release, it does not go further than a foot.

You don't need a spring compressor to remove the coil springs. What you do is support the truck on the frame..and the let the arm hang down. Put a jack under the arm just to hold it up, not lift it. Unbolt the spring...drop the arm down with the jack..and the spring will come out. You don't need a compressor because there is no tension on the spring.
