Went to plug in the block heater (32 this morning and wanted to make sure it worked before heading to MT next weekend) on the new to me 00 F350. On my old 6.9, I could hear the block heater as it came on - not so on the 7.3. I traced the wires back and discovered them cut and just hanging down. I am assuming the block heater is just above the oil filter? It doesn't look like there is any wire on either the cable or the heater to strip back and re-attach. New block heater and wire/cord time? Cost?
I also noticed the hose from the top of the front diff just goes up and about 2 feet back along the frame and ends with the end open to the air- is this a vent of some kind? Seems like kind of a think walled hose to be a vent.
I don't know about the heater but yes the hose is a vent for your front diff. If, like me, you spend a lot of time running in mud and water then you will want to extend that.
Thanks for the reply - was hoping it was just a vent. With the amount of snow I'll be driving in, I think I will raise it up a tad.
I think I've solved the block heater issue - looks like time for a new one. Unfortunately, I'm stayingin an RV park and can't dump the coolant or work on it here.
