Guys, I just bought a rebuilt 400 for $150 Canadian Dollars!! A young fella I know wants to do the 460/ C-6 swap so he unloaded his low mileage 400 to me!
Now, it has no ridges in the cylinders, I''m going to measure them just to confirm that it has been done right and bored out,................
My question is about the pistons. They are dished...... but I don't think they are a stock piston. the valve reliefs cut right through the raised outer edges. The dished middle area is only about 1/32 or 1/16 lower than the raised outer edge. Almost like a flat top....
In 1971 or shortly thereafter replacement pistons (even oversize) for the 1971 may have been available. In later years the 71 style piston was phased out and only the lower compression 73 and later piston was available. There have been aftermarket flat top pistons available at times but they do not have any dish at all, just valve reliefs. There have been various NOS pistons available sporadically on eBay and garage sales for years.
