I've recently replaced my worn out 302 in my 81 bronco with a 351 w. I had numerous problems with the conversion.I won't go into them.(unless someone wants to know). But my latest one is concerning headers.Shorties won't fit ,flange hits driveshaft, and the collector hits the tranny linkage. The regular headers are just to damn long. If anyone has a suggestion i would to know The engine is out of a 69 Ranchero recently rebuilt

I'm not sure I understand why shorties won't fit. All Bronco engine compartments are relativley the same, and shorties should bolt up without a problem.
Other mods perhaps?
Not if you buy the right kind. You go cheap, you get hassle. JBA headers have an excellent rep for bolting up with no hassles. Other quality options include Gibson or Bassani.
My JBAs fit perfectly with plenty of clearance, matched up perfectly with factory Y pipe. Many others on this board share the same experience.
BigRedBronc, how labor intensive was your install? My stockers are cracked at 132K and I'm looking at replacements. JBA have a great name in my old Mustang community so I expect nothing less in other applications. Is the header material thick? One thing I remember is ticking from the new headers. Not a problem, just the sound of the valvetrain coming through the thinner walled headers. Any noticeable power gain? My truck is a daily driver/boat tow.
Headers bolted right up, no problems. Hardest part of install was breaking old exhaust bolts loose, but since JBA sends brand new hardware, I could get a little destructive. Heavy 3/8" flanges, great quality header. Very noticeable power gain with my 302, you will probably see even more change with your 351 (they love to breath).
on my 91 302. Absolutely wonderfull. Check out heddman.com to get your part number and then buy them from summitt. These guys did a real good job with these shorties. Have had mine on for three months now and have noticed good power gains and mpg gains. I know every one in here is in love with JBA and Bassani but why not save a couple hundred bucks. Heddmans ran me 179.00 from summit.
because you get what you pay for. and usually the cheaper brands lack in quality. I had the summit shorties at one time and they were crap. but hey only cost 160 so i guess it was worth it. but now that i have a 351 i will be spendy more on good quality headers so i dont have the issues i did with the cheap ones. gibson are good, so are edelbrock.
The Heddman's and Summit headers are okay for the short term. A lot of people have problems with the Summit headers (oh...made for summit by Heddman) not lining up without a little persuasion.
The big problem is longevity. Yes, you saved money now by going with the Heddman shorties. You will spend that money again long before those of us with JBA's, Gibson's, or Bassani's will. Give it a year and you will know firsthand what I (and others) are talking about.
Kemicalburns nailed it...you get what you pay for.
The Summit headers are junk, they are made by Pace Setter. I returned the headers because of clearance problems and would not fit my Y pipe. Bought a pair of Headman headers from Summit they are great, bolted up without having to ding the tubes, no clearance problems and no header leaks.
According to Summit Racing (I e-mailed them when researching my headers) the Summit headers are made for them under contract with Heddman. I am quite sure that Heddman is not going to contract out the same quality header that they sell under their own name. Kinda counter-productive to under sell yourself.
Heddman makes a good long tube header, but their shorty headers have a bad rep. Many folks have had trouble with them after a very short time. Perhaps they have finally gotten their act together on the shorties. Only time will tell.
