91 explorer--possible maf sensor??
I need a little help here. I have a 91 exp with 190xxx miles and have some intermittant issues.
When it is cold out, it acts like it isn't getting enough fuel until it warms up. I unhooked the maf sensor by the air filter, and it runs better on the road now, however, it doesn't idel well, it fluctuates up and down. Also, with the maf hooked up, when I am going up a good size hill, it will start to miss or studder somewhat, and it seems to drink gas. Any help would be great. I don't want to go replacing things that arn't broke because of the $$ part.

If you think the MAF has a problem, try cleaning it. You might pay a few dollars for the security torx bits to get it off. The filaments are known to get dirty and cause various driveability issues. Gets discussed a lot.
